The Optimist

The Hoper of Far Flung Hopes and the Dreamer of Improbable Dreams

Keeping it dead simple - this is a Doctor Who opinion blog. Everything I post is my own opinion, you don't have to agree with it, and it does not necessarily reflect the actual opinions of anyone important. My aim is to suggest new and different ways of thinking about elements of Doctors Who, not to persuade you that my way is the only or best way of thinking about it

"Turned Her Into A Soldier?"

Writer: Chrisrs123Chrisrs123

I always feel like Martha's arc is not just becoming a doctor but becoming The Doctor in her own way. Like in Last of the Time Lords where she says her own name isn't important. And that's what makes it so heartbreaking when in S4 Donna points out to the Doctor that he 'turned her into a soldier' because she's saying that's what he really is too still and then it's the Doctor's Daughter straight after that which deals with that issue too.

Jenny: "You keep insisting you're not a soldier, but look at you, drawing up strategies like a proper general." The Doctor: "No, no. I'm trying to stop the fighting." Jenny: "Isn't every soldier?"
