What is the message of Kerblam?
The message is that we should replace all people with robots and I’m 100% behind that.
Really, it’s an exploration of the increasing number of jobs that can be done by machines instead.
Is it wrong if the episode to defend companies like Amazon?
I think it’s not defending. It’s pointing out the problems but that it can be done right. Charlie’s not wrong because of the argument, he’s wrong because he’s killing. And they do try to improve at the end by getting more people.
I like that it’s a look at where work might be going in a way that isn’t black and white. And it doesn’t magically solve everything but pushes things in a better direction at the end. It’s more sophisticated storytelling than other parts of S11 manage.
But aren’t the employees treated horribly?
Um no. They’re encouraged to keep chatter down to work nicely by the robots - all bosses would expect people to keep working on their shifts and they had just stopped to talk. Probably nicer about than most bosses would be.
Kira gets mistreated by Slade but bought a present by Julie so it’s good boss, bad boss there which is a reflection of many workplaces both big and small. That’s realism.
Okay, so is the episode perfect?
So close but no. There is one issue I can’t forgive. Kira deserved better.
